Professional Background

Mr. Chastang brings 17 years of diverse real estate appraisal experience with an extensive background in mass-appraisals for state and local government. During his time in public service, Steven learned the ins and outs of small-town politics, government policy, laws and regulations, public hearings, expert testimony, mass-appraisal methods and techniques, and worked with a wide range of ancient and modern technologies. Most of all, he learned about the challenges faced by government officials to be transparent with the public regarding real estate taxes; taxes that, in most cases, make up the largest portion of revenue for local government budgets.

Mr. Chastang determined, during his time in public service, his talent, skills, abilities, and career passions were better served by working directly with the public as opposed to those with political motivations. In the latter portion of his public sector experience, Steven was very fortunate to work closely with county executives, elected officials, and freeholders to gain unparalleled insight into the strengths and weaknesses of public policy for revenue generation, the balance of power and the people's role in government during a particular time in history.
